Two Lives on One Road – Emergency Care for an Injured Pregnant Gaumata

Some incidents shake you from inside—not because they are rare, but because they remind us how fragile a life on the street can be. On a highway, a helpless Gaumata was hit when a truck driver drove over her and fled the scene. There was no pause, no help, no looking back—only pain left behind on the road. When our team at Doon Animal Welfare Foundation received the call, we knew every minute mattered.

A Rescue That Couldn’t Wait

We rushed our ambulance to the location and brought her to our welfare center for immediate treatment. The condition we found was heartbreaking—she was in severe pain, unable to stand, and her breathing showed distress from shock and injury. This wasn’t just an accident; it was a life left to suffer.

What the Medical Check Revealed

After examination, our veterinarians confirmed:

• Fractured leg bone:

  The bone in her leg is broken, causing intense pain and preventing her from standing.

• Pregnant Gaumata:

  She is carrying a calf, which makes her condition even more critical and time-sensitive.

• Severe trauma and weakness:

  She is exhausted, frightened, and struggling due to the impact and ongoing pain.

Treatment Is Ongoing — But the Cost Has Increased

Our team started treatment immediately—pain management, stabilization, wound care, diagnostic support, and continuous monitoring. But as the days progress, the medical expenses are rising rapidly. Fracture care requires sustained support, medicines, bandaging and follow-ups, and she also needs special care because she is pregnant. Right now, we are not only fighting to save her life—we are protecting the life of the unborn calf as well.
